The story of Meng Jiang Nu, whose husband was sent to build the wall in the north, is yet another popular folktale from the Qin wall. When winter came, she set out to take him warm clothes. Tragedy awaited her. When she arrived he had already perished. In her grief, she sobbed and the wall miraculously fell open to reveal her husband's bones. These she retrieved for a proper burial in his native land.
